The Bible

The Bible was first written in Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek.
It has come into our modern languages through translation. So important
is its message that the Bible (or parts of it) has been translated
into 2,000 languages. Over 80% of the world's people speak these
languages. No book has been - and continues to be - translated more
widely than the Bible.

The Bible was written by 40 men during a period of 1600 years. Since
most of these writers were not alive at the same time, they could
not work together in any direct way. Yet the Bible has one continu-
ing story flowing through it. It forms a complete, united picture.
No other book has been written like this. In the most amazing way,
it joins centuries of history with the highest wisdom.

It is not surprising then that well over a quarter of the world's
population claims some belief in the Bible. Three great world
religions claim roots linked with the Bible

The Writers of the Bible Claimed to Speak from God

In seeking a Map for life, we should open the Bible because of the
claims it makes. Again and again it assures us that it is the pure
word of God. Look at these examples from the pages of the Bible:

Moses

Moses said the Ten Commandments were written "by the finger of
God" on stone tablets (Exodus 31:18). He reported the God spoke
with him "face to face, as a man speaks with his friend" (Exodus
33:11).

Billy Graham

Billy Graham was returning to Charlotte after a speaking engagement and when his plane arrived there was a limousine there to transport him to his home. As he prepared to get into the limo, he stopped and spoke to the driver.
"You know" he said, "I am 87 years old and I have never driven a limousine. Would you mind if I drove it for a while?"
The driver said,
"No problem. Have at it."
Billy gets into the driver's seat and they head off
down the highway.
A short distance away
sat a rookie State Trooper operating his first speed trap.
The long black limo went by him doing 70 in a 55 mph zone.
The trooper pulled out
and easily caught the limo
and he got out of his patrol car to begin the procedure.
The young trooper walked up to the driver's door
and when the glass
was rolled down,
he was surprised to see
who was dr iving.
He immediately excused himself and went back to his car
and called his supervisor.
He told the supervisor,
"I know we are supposed
to enforce the law...
But I also know that
important people are
given certain courtesies.
I need to know what
I should do because
I have stopped a
very important person."
The supervisor asked, "Is it the governor?"
The young trooper said, "No, he's more important than that."

The supervisor said, "Oh, so it's the president."

The young trooper said, "No, he's even more important than that."
The supervisor finally asked, "Well then, who is it?"
The young trooper said,
"I think it's Jesus,
because he's got Billy Graham for a chauffeur!"

Rainbows after the rain ....

Whatever your cross,
whatever your pain,
there will always be sunshine,
after the rain ....
Perhaps you may stumble,
perhaps even fall,
But God's always ready,
To answer your call ...
He knows every heartache,
sees every tear,
A word from His lips,
can calm every fear ...
Your sorrows may linger,
throughout the night,
But suddenly vanish,
in dawn's early light ...
The Savior is waiting,
somewhere above,
To give you His grace,
and send you His love...
Whatever your cross,
whatever your pain,
"God always sends rainbows ....
after the rain ... "

** Catholic Church: Includes non-Latin Rites in communion with Rome, such as Ukrainian Catholics, Coptic Catholics, etc.
** Jehovah's Witnesses: This 16+ million figure is the approximate number of adherents -- intended to reflect all those who consider Jehovah's Witnesses their preferred faith, regardless of current activity status. Figure is based on reported once-a-year memorial attendance (adjusted). Actual number of publishers was 6 million worldwide in 1999. Worldwide, the number of practicing Jehovah's Witnesses may actually be higher than the number of practicing Anglicans.

what is TRUTH

Truth brings stability. Absent truth, the world is unhinged, leaving only chaos. Isaiah said, "Truth is fallen in the street" (Isaiah 59:14). This happens when we run from the truth, rather than embrace it.
Truth is freedom. Jesus said, "You shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free" (John 8:32). Truth matters supremely because, in the end, without truth there is no freedom. (For example, consider how repressive regimes that deny their people basic freedoms must prop themselves up by distortions and lies.)
Truth can be learned, actually imparted. Jesus, looking to the day the Holy Spirit would come in power, said, "When He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth" (John 16:13). Isn't it reassuring to know that the Holy Spirit is with you on the path of life as your guide to all truth?
Truth is the surest way to avoid deception. Deception is your number one future danger. Jesus said, "Take heed that no one deceives you. False christs and false prophets will rise and show great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect" (Matthew 24:4, 24). Paul said the days ahead would be marked by the "working of Satan, with all power, signs and lying wonders, and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish because they did not receive the love of the truth" (2 Thessalonians 2:9,10). As a friend of mine says, "The only safeguard against deception is a passionate love for the truth."
